Melaleuca alternifolia, commonly know as “Tea Tree Oil,” has been used to help soothe many types of infections, and has long been respected for its antiseptic properties. Australian Aborigines have used the leaves of the melaleuca tree for centuries to heal cuts, wounds and skin infections. It is also helpful in clearing the skin. Melaleuca acts as an oil-controlling agent with high germicidal value. It has the property to penetrate pus and by mixing with it, the pus liquefies which causes it to slough off, leaving a healthy surface.
It has been documented to kill many types of bacteria and fungi on contact, so – just as the Aborigines knew – it is excellent for cuts, wounds, diaper rash, insect bites, ringworm, and burns, and anywhere harmful bacteria might be found.
